Libby Lab University of Toronto

A statement from Dr. Libby

As a scientist and educator, I believe it is my responsibility to support the education and training of every individual who enters my lab or classroom. I am committed to providing fair, inclusive, and equitable mentorship to all those I work with. I see my role not only as a researcher and teacher but as a facilitator of access — bringing groundbreaking, exciting science to anyone who is eager to engage.

To me, Equity, Diversity, and Inclusion (EDI) efforts go beyond simple recruitment. They are about cultivating environments where every individual feels welcomed, valued, and empowered to contribute fully. My goal is to help create spaces that people can truly make their own. I hold myself accountable to lead by example and commit to the following principles:

- I will recruit team members from diverse backgrounds and perspectives.

- I will advocate for and support individuals on my team who feel unheard or marginalized.

- I will continually educate myself to better understand the experiences of others.

- I will acknowledge my mistakes and focus on constructive solutions rather than dwelling on setbacks.

- I will foster an environment grounded in acceptance, empathy, and understanding.

- I promise to always listen — with openness, humility, and respect.
